Dota 2 MMR reset is now optional

Valve pushed a Dota Plus update last night, which comes with plenty of perks for the subscribers, but along with the said update, the ranked matchmaking has also received a big change.

Dota 2 developer is taking a new approach for recalibration and after keeping the current season in place for a whole year, those who want to change their current rank will be able to do so starting with October 22.

“In the past we’ve seen a bunch of negative aspects to forcing everyone to reset their MMR at the same time. That has been part of our reluctance to continue with resetting every 6 months,” Valve said. “For this season, we are going to try a new approach to MMR resets. We are making the MMR reset optional, and for those who want to participate, we instead spread it out so it doesn’t create too much volatility at the same time (on top of the volatility that already exists when you enter calibration). We hope this will remove most of the downsides of MMR resets, and let the people that really want to do it be able to do so in a little bit more of a stable environment,” the game developer added.

Players have the option to reset their MMR by going in the settings menu and activate the MMR recalibration in the Account tab.

The fall season recalibration option will be “spaced out evenly” between October 22 and November 22 and can be activated “anytime until the season is over.” Valve announced.
