The final invites for the upcoming ESL One Cologne tournaments have been revealed. MIBR has rounded out the European division while Chaos and Triumph take the final two slots in North America. In Asia TYLOO was joined by ViCi, Invictus, Beyond while the Oceania tournament will feature Renegades, ORDER, AVANT, and Chiefs.
One of the most prestigious events of the year, ESL had to make a tough call to move the event to an online format due to the ongoing global pandemic.
“ESL One Cologne is one of the truly special events in the esports calendar, and one that players and fans around the world cherish” said Michal “Carmac” Blicharz, VP of Pro Gaming at ESL in the official press release. “The crew at ESL wanted nothing more than to have players on-site to compete, after an extended period of research and deliberations, we came to the conclusion that the time is not yet right for an in-person competition. Until that day comes, we want to deliver the best online experience we can.”
The event will instead be run as four separate regional events (Europe, North America, Asia, and Oceania) with $600,000 on the line in total split amongst the regions. Taking place from August 18th to 30th, ESL One Cologne will still have ESL Pro Tour points given out, however, it will no longer count as an ESl Pro Tour Masters stop nor will it count toward the third season of the Intel Grand Slam.
