Tyson “TenZ” Ngo may not have but one title to his name in VALORANT currently, but he’s certainly proven himself as a top player. The former Counter-Strike professional made the swap to VALORANT as the first member of Cloud9’s roster. Since then the organization has revealed Skyler “relyks” Weaver, another Counter-Strike veteran, as its second member.
The lineup has been using a variety of stand-ins but their only first place finish came at the Elite Esports – Rivalry Bowl North America where TenZ and relyks were joined by Gage “infinite” Green, Mitch “mitch” Semago, and Josh “shinobi” Abastado – all former or current CS:GO players. This event was very early in the games lifecycle, however, it did feature the current TSM lineup (mouseSpaz at the time) alongside the previous Highground lineup (now majority 100 Thieves).
Since then TenZ has been the star of the show as the not-yet-complete lineup has competed in four more events with the most recent being the Pulse Invitational where they earned a runner-up finish. Losing to Gen.G 2-0 in the finals wasn’t what they’d hoped for but nonetheless, it’s their best placement since a June 15th second place performance in the Immortals First Light event which saw them lose 2-0 to TSM.
Throughout this, TenZ has managed a 1.44 ValRating in event playoffs which sets him as the highest ranked player in North America with a total of 392 rounds. This data is drawn from Valorantify.com with the stats filters set to playoffs only for North American players. He currently averages 1.08 kills per round with second place Zachary “Venerated” Roach of 100 Thieves coming in at .93. If you add in non-North American players competing in North America, the second slot in rating moves from Venerated to Theodor “in0X” Bjornsson who holds a 1.28, however, the former still holds the kills per round runner up position compared to in0X’s .91.
In the most recent event, Pulse Invitational, TenZ also topped the charts. While finishing second as mentioned above, TenZ had a 1.35 rating in 134 rounds played with a kill/round average of .99.
Cloud9 hasn’t figured out their roster yet, but one thing is for sure – TenZ is not to be reckoned with. The young talent is certainly a piece worth building around and if he continues this type of performance with a well rounded team joining him we could be looking at Cloud9 running North America.
