Top European and CIS teams unite their efforts and together with WePlay! Esports and Epic Esports will keep the Dota 2 community needs for quality competitive Dota 2 happening in the month of August satisfied.
The month of August is associated by all Dota 2 fans with The International. Unfortunately, this year, the event can’t happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the current situation, OG, Alliance, Nigma, Team Liquid, Team Secret, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Virtus.pro and Natus Vincere have come together to create OMEGA League, an event which will run from July 20 to September 6.
OMEGA League will include both Europe and CIS as well as North and South America divisions, giving a chance to a total of 42 teams to compete for a share of the $600,000 total prize pool.
WePlay! Esports will be in charge of the English broadcast while the Russian stream will be handled by RuHub.
JMR Luna, CEO of OG esports, representative of EU Teams:
“We decided to work together as a coalition of organizations, driven by our commitment to the fans, our love for this game, and the will to create a more sustainable competitive ecosystem around Dota 2. OMEGA LEAGUE is the first tournament coming from this partnership and everyone involved has poured their hearts into making it worthy of those mythical weeks in August.”
Vitaliy “Nexius” Bozhko, Lead Esports Manager at WePlay! Esports:
“We are excited about the opportunity to work on interesting
ideas, and very curious about the reaction of the community. Our team and
colleagues from Epic Esports Events are giving this event everything that we
have. I really hope the audience will enjoy the results. The event takes place
on the dates when we are used to seeing The International, and that impacts the
level of responsibility we feel about OMEGA LEAGUE.”
