It has been over a year since Zelda fans have been given an update from Ninty on the Breath of the Wild sequel. The last time Breath of the Wild 2 surfaced was when the next Zelda game was announced at the end of the E3 2019 Nintendo Direct. Since then there have been a number of false dawns when it seemed Nintendo were about to reveal more on Breath of the Wild 2, only to keep shtum.
But now, after over a year of radio silence, Breath of the Wild 2 fans could be about to receive the first major update on the game since its reveal at E3 2019.
Next week the House of Mario are rumoured to be holding their first full Nintendo Direct since the broadcast at E3 last year.
Following on from that blockbuster stream, Nintendo have held other broadcasts – including a Direct Mini back in March.
But none of these streams have been as all encompassing as a proper Nintendo Direct.
- Switch update 10.1.0 out now – and you’ll never guess what it does
That last full Nintendo Direct was one for the ages, with Breath of the Wild 2, Banjo Kazooie for Smash and The Witcher 3 Switch version.
There was also the official unveiling of Animal Crossing New Horizons in that Direct.
It was a bumper set of announcements, and there’s hope the next Nintendo Direct could be just as chokablok full of news.
That’s because the Switch release schedule for the rest of this year is looking extremely bare, which could mean there are plenty of 2020 games set to get announced in the next Direct.
After Nintendo didn’t hold their typical annual June Direct, rumours emerged that the next Nintendo Direct could be as far away as the end of this summer.
But recently chatter about a Nintendo Direct for July 2020 is stepping up, with the rumours coming courtesy of insider Kelios.
- Smash Bros news could prove Nintendo Direct for July is on the way
Kelios previously correctly revealed the timings for the March Direct Mini, and at the start of this month said a July Direct was in the works.
They dropped this news while responding to a post on Twitter from in-the-know journalist Jeff Grubb.
At the time they tweeted: “You forgot Nintendo Direct (in July) :3″.”
And Kelios followed this up by saying on ResetEra the next Nintendo Direct could be happening on Monday July 20.
If that’s the case then we may get official confirmation about the date and time for the next Nintendo Direct on Friday July 17 ahead of the weekend.
Kelios did caution separately on Twitter though: “If I’m wrong, it would mean that Nintendo postpone the presentation at the last moment”.
If Ninty are holding a proper Nintendo Direct next week then Breath of the Wild 2 seems one of the likely choices for an announcement.
Given excitement surrounding the project is huge, and we haven’t heard about it for so long, it could be one of the headline announcements of the next Direct.
The Nintendo Direct for July 2020 is also expected to detail how Nintendo will mark the 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.
In September 1985 Super Mario Bros was launched on the Famicom in Japan, and Ninty are rumoured to have some big plans in store to honour the landmark.
It is believed the Switch will be getting a Super Mario All Stars-style collection to mark the 35th anniversary of the release of the iconic and influential platformer.
Classic 3D titles Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy are all expected to feature in the upcoming Switch collection.
