Meowscles is the latest character in Fortnite to get a makeover, and this one makes him look like Felix the Cat with an old-school cartoon skin.
Announced alongside a surprisingly well-animated cartoon short, the “Toon Meowscles” skin is part of a bundle in the Fortnite item shop for 1,400 V-bucks. The bundle comes with the toon skin, plus a built-in emote and a tuna back-bling. Another bundle worth 1,700 V-bucks adds an animated pickaxe, loading screen and music track.
Interestingly, even though the cartoon short for Toon Meowscles had its own old-school sounding music track attached to it, the track that is played as part of the built-in emote and related to the character as a whole is actually a brand new song from rapper Trippie Redd called “Drop In”. The song itself is also available as part of the second bundle as an in-game music track and has been released in full on Fortnite’s official YouTube page.
In the track, Trippie Redd can be heard rapping about “getting the purple gun” and drinking Slurp Juice, so it’s pretty clear that the song is made specifically for Fortnite. This isn’t the first time something like this has happened, as Bruno Mars made a dance move specifically for the game just last month. It seems more and more real-world figures will be getting involved in Fortnite.
The Fortnite Twitter account also Tweeted out the loading screen for Toon Meowscles, and the amount of detail put into it has some players thinking that it might be teasing something bigger coming to the game, such as a season based on old cartoons. We’ve seen weirder things in Fortnite, after all.
It’s much more likely that it’s just a set of costumes, however, as data miners have previously found reference to toon versions of Peely and Fishstick alongside the now-revealed Toon Meowscles. Whether or not we can expect to see cartoon shorts and songs for those two characters is unknown, but it seems pretty likely considering the treatment that has been given to Meowscles.
