Hitman 3 has shot to No. 1 in the UK boxed charts, with launch sales up 17% over 2018’s Hitman 2. The third-person stealth game, which was developed and published by IO Interactive for Microsoft Windows, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia, and Nintendo Switch on January 20 2021, is the final game in the World of Assassination trilogy, but not be the last game in the franchise, according to its developers.
In terms of physical games, the PS5 version of Hitman 3 accounts for 49% of sales, the Xbox version for 27%, and the PS4 version for 25%, though most the game’s sales have been digital. Hitman’s debut at No. 1 has knocked Animal Crossing: New Horizons, whose sales dropped 8% week-on-week, out of the top spot.
The new sales of PS5 consoles, which were restocked last week in the UK, have helped boost the performance of several games. Spider-Man: Miles Morales increased sales by 161% and claimed the fifth spot on the charts, up from the twelfth spot last week.
In addition, Demon’s Souls increased sales by 291% and reentered the charts at No. 27, while sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War were up 56%, and sales of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla were up 7%. Overall, PS5 game sales saw an increase of 324% week-on-week.
Ring Fit Adventure, the Nintendo Switch fitness game, also had a great week. The title reached No. 7 on the charts with a 47% sales increase. Demand for the game has increased dramatically as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the closure of fitness centers. Due to a shortage of stock, US resellers have been listing the game at $300, up from its retail price of $80.
The UK Top Ten for the week ending January 23 are the following:
