Nintendo To Invest $500,000 In Retro Studios Headquarters Ahead Of Metroid Prime 4

Nintendo is doing everything it can to make Metroid Prime 4 another hit, as it’s been reported that the company has invested over $500,000 into the expansion of Retro Studios headquarters.

The developer will use the influx of cash to add 40,000 square feet to its office in Austin, Texas – a location its been working out of since 2011. Retro Studios is currently hiring for a dozen of different positions, and all that new space will be necessary as it continues to onboard employees and expand.

Although it’s working on one of Nintendo’s most storied franchises, Retro hasn’t been particularly busy over the past several years. It’s last big project was Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in 2018, which was a port of the Wii U title from 2014. The last Metroid Prime game to come out of Retro was Metroid Prime: Trilogy way back in 2009, which was – again – a port of the previous Metroid Prime titles.

Seeing Nintendo’s investment in the studio is a relief, however, as it’s been 13 years since Metroid Prime 3 hit the market and fans are itching to get their hands on Metroid Prime 4. It’s clear that Nintendo is taking care of Retro Studios and doing whatever is needed to ensure the development of the next installment is a smooth, headache-free process. Before working on Metroid Prime 4, Retro Studios was working on a title that has since been cancelled – a fate no one wants to see befall our beloved Samus.

Metroid Prime 4’s release is likely still years away, as Retro only recently took the helm of the project. It’s previous developer – who hasn’t been formally revealed by Nintendo – didn’t deliver a product that was up to par, forcing a restart and a switch to Retro Studios. The team’s previous Metroid Prime games were nothing short of fantastic, and we’re optimistic Prime 4 will be another classic when it eventually comes to market.

Retro Studios will use the influx of cash to expand its headquarters and assist in the development of Metroid Prime 4. A release date is yet to be announced.
