As confirmed earlier this week by Niantic, today is the day for Lucky Trades in Pokemon Go.
This is the biggest part of Pokemon Friendship Day, a three-hour event, which will be the first in a series coming to Android and iOS.
This week’s Friendship Day focuses on Grass-type Pokémon, which will be appearing more often in the wild.
The new Collection Challenge is also live during the event, and Trainers can use it to earn more XP.
There’s also an increased chance of receiving a Lucky Pokémon when you trade with a friend, which is another big bonus of Friendship Day.
From what has been shared so far by Niantic, Friendship Day will be live for three hours local time between 11am and 2pm.
The good news is that while this week’s event is only available for a short time, the Lucky Trades boost will be active until 5pm local time.
Pokemon Go Buddy: Niantic reveal brand new adventure element
This should give Trainers plenty of time to try and unlock the best Lucky Pokemon as possible.
This is happening today and will include the following features:
- Various Grass-type Pokémon will be appearing more often in the wild.
- Complete the Friendship Day Collection Challenge before the event concludes to earn 175,000 XP.
- Green confetti will be appearing on the map in celebration of Grass-type Pokemon.
A message from Niantic explains: “You’ll have an increased chance of receiving a Lucky Pokemon when you complete a trade with a friend. Please note that this bonus will be active until 5:00 p.m. local time on the day of the event.
“Trade distance will be increased to 40 km, A 3× Catch XP bonus will be active, Incense activated during the event will last for three hours, and Lures activated during the event will last for three hours.”
A quick refresher on Lucky Pokemon for those who haven’t played in a while:
“One of the many benefits to trading Pokémon with friends is that you have a chance at receiving a Lucky Pokémon. Lucky Pokémon are more likely to be strong opponents in battle, require less Stardust to power up, and appear with a shimmery effect in the Pokédex and on the Pokémon’s Summary page.
“Although Pokémon turn into Lucky Pokémon at random when traded, the longer you have a Pokémon, the greater the chances that they will become Lucky Pokémon.
“Once you become Best Friends, all subsequent friendship interactions have a small chance to make you and your Best Friend become Lucky Friends. You’ll be notified by an in-app notification and will be able to see that they’re your Lucky Friend in your Friend List and Friend Profile page.
“When you are Lucky Friends with someone, the next time you trade with each other, both Pokémon will become Lucky Pokémon. After the trade, your Lucky Friend status will be cleared. You can try to become Lucky Friends again by increasing your Friendship.”
