Pokedex entries are fascinating things and differ from game to game. Going back in time can result in the discovery of some absolute gems, like this one.
We are fast approaching the arrival of the world’s 1000th Pokemon. 25 years on and we have come a long way since the introduction of gen one’s original 151 Pokemon. Coming up with ideas for new monsters must be a pretty daunting task at this point. It’s why some Pokemon might appear to be nothing more than a sentient ice cream cone, although the likes of Vanillite are more inventive than you might think.
Simply figuring out what a Pokemon is going to look like is only half the battle. Designers also need to decide on its type, moveset, and even a back story. Every Pokemon comes with a snippet of information for its Pokedex entry. That info can vary from game to game, and in Pokemon Sapphire, the game’s creators decided to have a little fun.
In Sapphire, Dodrio’s Pokedex entry reads, “apparently, the heads aren’t the only parts of the body that Dodrio has three of.” To anyone over the age of about 12, that suggests Dodrio has three dongs too, or three cloacas if it’s a female. Fans have argued that it might also mean necks, or tails, or beaks, but we all know what the writer of this Dex entry was getting at.
Or at least what they were trying to imply before revealing the real body part Dodrio has three of, other than its head. Even though the suggestive line has become a running joke online in recent years, it is actually only half of Dodrio’s Sapphire entry. If you play the game and press enter, you will discover that the other things Dodrio has three of are some of its internal organs.
“It has three sets of hearts and lungs as well, so it is capable of running long distances without rest,” is the second half of the Dex entry. That’s all well and good, but we all know what the desired effect was by whoever split the entry in this way. The first half will forever be a meme online. Plus, the entry doesn’t clarify whether Dodrio’s triplicate body parts extend beyond heads, hearts, and lungs, so you never know.

Josh has been gaming for as long as he can remember. That love began with a mild childhood addiction to the Sega Genesis, or Mega Drive since he lives in the UK. Back then, Sonic 2 quickly became his favorite game and as you might have guessed from his picture, the franchise has remained close to his heart ever since. Nowadays, he splits his time between his PS4 and his Switch and spends far too much time playing Fortnite.
