The New Oculus Quest Might Have Leaked On Twitter

Just a few months ago, a Bloomberg report claimed that Oculus was developing a Quest 2 as a follow-up to the year-old standalone VR headset Quest 1, and it looks like it might have leaked. Twitter user Walkingcat, who posted an image of the HP Reverb G2 a week before its official reveal, tweeted out a picture that appears to be a new Oculus headset.

While we don’t know for sure if this is the Quest 2, given WalkingCat’s track record, it certainly seems possible that it’s legit. The original Quest 1 was GameSpot’s overall pick for the best VR headset. Based on the Bloomberg report, the Quest 2 will be 10-15% smaller and lighter than the Quest 1. The most obvious difference between this apparent Quest 2 and its predecessor is the switch from the all-black of the Quest 1 to the white-and-black approach shown here. The strap also appears to be a new design, which would require only two adjustments for the sides and back, rather than the three straps of the Quest 1.

This new headset would appear to lack the IPD (interpupillary distance) slider of the Quest 1, which allows VR users to adjust the headset based on the distance between their eyes, which varies widely in the general population. It’s unclear if the Quest 2 will introduce a new slider in a different location, or if it will forgo it entirely, as is the case with the now-discontinued Oculus Go. If you’re still in the market for a Quest 1, they’re in stock on Amazon.
