Animal Crossing mod gets rid of all the sea bass

If you play Animal Crossing: New Horizons for any amount of time, you are probably already sick of the phrase, “I caught a sea bass! No, wait—it’s at least a C+!” The sea bass is so common many players come to hate the poor marine denizen, who often tricks people into thinking they might have found a rarer fish. But what if you never had to see another sea bass in Animal Crossing ever again?

Such are the powers of mods, like this one by SmuggestGirl, which eradicates the green roach in its entirety. “Not all hero’s wear capes, thanks!” one commenter on the mod page says. “Shucks, now [it’s] all squids, olive flounders, and red snappers now,” another says.

Hilariously, there’s also a mod that does the complete opposite. It seems that SmuggestGirl is an agent of chaos, because they’ve also developed a “only sea bass” mod that makes all other varieties of fish extinct. Six brave souls in total have downloaded it thus far.

On the more helpful end, there’s also a mod that color-codes the fish, so you know what to expect. Common fish are yellow, while bigger/rarer fish are red and purple. This way, there are no surprises when you cast your reel.

Unfortunately, you can’t experience any of these tweaks unless you’re running a modded Switch or are playing an emulated version of the game. But it’s striking to see the differences in potential experience — Animal Crossing hackers are making all sorts of quality of life adjustments that the base game sorely needs.
